Oscar Brown papers, ca. 1970s.

The Oscar Brown Papers consist of Brown's reminiscences of his time as a Lutheran missionary on Little Diomede Island and at Solomon, Alaska, in the 1930s ("The Little Diomede Island Story") and in the Bristol Bay region in the 1940s ("The Bristol Bay Story"); and two published works of proselytization.

Oscar Brown (1903-1997), who was born in Norway, came to the United States at the age of 22 and worked a variety of jobs to earn his way. In 1928, he entered the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On graduation in 1930, he made his way to Juneau, Alaska.
